The rising influence of apps in our lives has certainly made life easier, allowing us more information and control over the things we care about. But how is it for skiers?
There are several apps on the market that offer more knowledge of the resorts, local weather, facilities and slopes on offer in the top ski destinations. Many offer ski maps for the major resorts worldwide, while others are tailored to particular regions.
The Snow Report by The North Face
This one has it all for North Face clothing fans who love to ski. Billed as “Everything you need”, this app offers detailed snow conditions, weather reports and trail maps for your chosen resort. There are direct links to resort websites and, where would you be without directions to your local North Face store? It will allow you to log your trip and store the information for you to look back on. The Snow Report relies on network signal.
Ski Tracks
Working offline, this one’s for the iPod Touch users, as well as iPhone users. Ski Tracks is billed as the professional ski tracking app. It will record distance skied, the duration of your run, altitude and the degree of slope. The makers have built in something special; it’s designed to be more energy efficient and can be used the whole day without killing your device. There is also a minimum power threshold. When your device reaches it, the app works as an override, stopping your music and pausing your ski record, leaving you just enough juice to arrange your night out.
Snocator
This app is basically a trail map and resort guide in your pocket. Handy if you’re visiting a resort for the first time and want to orientate yourself ahead of time. You can also get weather forecasts, mountain cams and snow reports. And it’s free!

Der Weißer Ring: The Challenge
