If in case you come upon Error 3194 throughout iTunes while you’re attempting to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, it is possible to repair it by momentarily prevent Apple firmware signing services.

Error 3194 is very much triggered when unsigned firmware is employed, generally throughout an iOS downgrade as well as while in numerous restores. Here is the best way to deal with this particular error:
error3194

Fixing iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch Error 3194

The fix is similar whatever Operating System in your handset you happen to be making use of.

    • Quit to iTunes.
    • Find your particular hosts file, in Mac OS X this is usually /etc/hosts and then in Windows this is certainly C:/windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts.
    • Make sure that you are in Administrator privileges if you want to edit this file.
    • Open the file using any editor, notepad will do.
    • After that Add this particular lines on the very bottom part in the hosts file.

If your device is running on iOS 4 or below use this line;

74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com

If your device is running on iOS 5 use the line;

74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

  • Get in touch your device on your pc.
  • Launch apple itunes.
  • Place your iPhone/iPad/iPod into DFU mode simply by switching your device off and holding down the particular sleep as well as the power button for about 10 seconds, next release the power button but remain holding the home button right up until apple itunes says to you that your gadget will now be in recovery mode.
  • Make use of the itunes Restore function as normal along with your iOS device.

As soon as you finished, take away that “74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com” line in your hosts file yet again to ensure iTunes can correctly update as normal. When you need these, you may get iPhone firmware, iPad firmware, as well as iPod touch firmware completely from Apple.

Uhmmm it doesnt work. I am trying to jailbreak my ipod 4.3.2 with snowbreeze and am up to the last step: shift restore. This is where I found trouble. Error 3194 showed up. I tried updating itunes to the newest version, still didnt work. I tried tiny umbrella (unchecking a specific box) and it still didnt work. Can you help me on this one?

    • Jeiboy August 18, 2011 at 11:35 am #

Seems the problem is in your host files have you tried adding 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com at the bottom of the file?

      • Andrew March 13, 2012 at 11:09 am #

I tried what carrie and u did
        but those didn’t work either
        is there any other way?

it didn't work, I have ipad 3.2 and I want to update it to 4.3.3 but didn't work.. I tried the host file thing and I tried the tiny umbrella nothing has worked, please help me :(

    • Jeiboy August 19, 2011 at 2:34 am #

Do you have the updated firmware? or do you purchase the updated firmware directed from Apple? well if not, may be that's the cause of that error on your device, purchase the updated firmware to correct that.

  3. chann August 20, 2011 at 7:18 am #

this method does not work with my iPhone..Do you have another option?

    • Jeiboy August 20, 2011 at 2:40 pm #

Okay try this, head to your hosts file and remove lines that contains gs.apple.com and reboot your device. If still doesn't work maybe the problem is in your antivirus, there's a possibility that your antivirus blocked the access to gs.apple.com.

found a way really easy for change the iOS, the first thing is to save a copy, after that and already having the firmware 4.3.3 open iTunes and pressing shift by clicking restore appers the browse window choose the firmware, then the ipad turns to DFU mode and starts, after that load your copy and ready, lets work

    • Jeiboy August 20, 2011 at 4:20 pm #

      Thanks Rich, very useful information.

  7. Andrew Washington August 22, 2011 at 4:10 am #

Only way I could resolve this was to plug the iPhone 3GS (not jailbroken) into my wife's Netbook and let iTunes download 4.3.5 and install which went as normal.

Once it was finished I plugged it back into my PC and repeated and this time it worked perfectly.

    • Jeiboy August 22, 2011 at 5:44 am #

I have the Iphone 3gs 4.3.5 BB 5.16.. I tried everything and it still doesn't work. Now I have a black screen and it doesn't want to turn back on. I'm going to try and DFU it to 4.3.5 again, because previously I was going to 4.1 and that didn't work I got the 3194 every time. I hope my screen comes back up. This has been hell for me for the past 6 hours and no resolved what so ever.

BTW: I did that host thing and saved it but it still doesn't work

PLEASE HELP… I tried to restore and update it, but I still get the 3194 error. I don't know what else to do.

    • Jeiboy September 1, 2011 at 1:20 pm #

That's terrible situation chris but I will try to help you, have you tried using TinyUmbrella? if

      not try this.

-Download TinyUmbrella which you can found here: TinyUmbrella Website

      -Launch it.

      -Click “Advanced” tab.

-Uncheck the “Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit”

      -Click “Apply Changes”

      -And finally reboot your PC/Mac.

Let me know if this method works on you.

I recently tried upgrading my iphone 4 ios5 beta 6 to ios 5 beta 7 using the OTA option. it then proceeded to tell me to hook the iphone up to itunes. so i did that and it told me i had to restore the phone. i tried restoring the phone (using itunes 10.5 beta 6) and it told me that it could not be restored after going through the whole restoration process. i then found out i had to upgrade itunes 10.5 beta 6 to itunes 10.5 beta 7, so i did so.

Now i'm pressing Shift+Restore and selecting the ios5 beta 7 software and am being told the firmware is corrupt and to disconnect and reconnect my iphone.

    can anyone help me? =

    • Jeiboy September 1, 2011 at 8:46 pm #

Firmware is corrupt? I’m not sure on this but I think its your antivirus or firewall try to disable it and do the process once again. If this fails to solve your problem then if your iphone 4 is still on warranty you can replace it free of charge :)

  13. HoneySingh October 23, 2011 at 1:42 pm #

    I tried almost everything.

#1: Edited the host file as administrator and added 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com at the end. Reconnected the iphone 4, 3194 error still there. With the same settings restarted my PC and then tried the process again, 3194 still there.

#2: Deleted the host file from the file path and then initiated the process again.. error still there.

#3: Unistalled the McAfee AntiVirus from my system (to ensure if the AV was interfering with the restore process) and restarted the PC, error still there.

I have an Iphone 4 originally came with the IOS 4.3.4, I upgraded it to 4.3.5 a while back and then jailbreaked it using redsn0w(untethered). Now I am trying to upgrade to IOS 5 using iTunes and it is giving my this error. Even if I try SHIFT + RESTORE and try selecting the IOS 5 ipsw file which i downloaded from the web, it still gives the same error. Any suggestions?

    • Me-u October 23, 2011 at 2:14 pm #

Actually, I have the same problem… Even TinyUmbrella doesn’t work on me…

      • AppleIsMakinMeMad October 24, 2011 at 6:22 am #

I updated mine regularly a long time ago after jailbreaking and since its been fine. i have done the same 3 things you have and it is still giving me that error. any solution yet?

    • Jeiboy October 24, 2011 at 8:09 am #

Hey guys here’s another tip I found, For those who have vmware workstaion set up you may get 3194 even when you do not have the particular hosts entry.

If you have vmware workstation set up or perhaps when you have multiple network adapters within your machine, disable these in Device Manager before you decide to try.

Therefore the combination for hosts and also disabling some other network adapters must solve your problem. Let me know if this works on you.

At first, I was getting errors of 1602 then getting 3194. Now I”m getting 1601 and I’m not sure what to do from here on. Maybe downgrading doesn’t work…. I”ve used TinyUmbrella as well……

Hi, am currently running IOS 4.3.2 iphone 4 and i want to update to 5.0.1 so i created a custom ipsw with snowbreeze and redsnow in order to preserve my baseband. I used ireb to ender DFU mode but keep getting error 3194. I edited my host file by adding 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com at the bottom then i keep getting error 1602. When deleting 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com from the host file error 3194 is back again. With tiny umbrella i keep getting error 11 when running tss. Can you please guide on solving this issue.

  36. doja503 April 6, 2012 at 12:31 pm #

one thing i found that is not listed when tackleing the host editingin the notepad you have to make sure to put a “#” at the begining of the line then tab then the 74.208.10.249 then tab again then “gs.apple.com” it wouldnt work for me until i did that. its basic programing in a notepad form, most people miss that point….
